By Alex Rose Every year at this time I make a commitment to keep better records throughout the year so I won’t have so much to do in January to prepare my income tax return. Well, I did no better this past year than in 2006 and in 2007. Thus, it will take me a few very concentrated hours to get my stuff together. Once more I will say, “I am going to do better this year.”

WASHINGTON — A tip for taxpayers who want to see their refunds faster: File electronically. That advice from the Internal Revenue Service could come in handy for people in economic straits. Last year, the average refund was $2,429. The number of returns filed electronically has more than doubled over the past 10 years.
